Henderson the Blade
By: James |Watford Striker Daius Henderson hs signed for Sheffield United for £2M on a four year deal. Watford will also recieve add ons when certain aspects of Henderson’s game progress.
Henderson made his Watford debut against Preston on the opening day in 2005 and scored the only goal in a 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road. Fittingly, Darius scored his last goal in his last game which came against Hull City in the Play offs.
Henderson is most renound for his strong work ethic and strong physical nature.
This leaves the Hornets’ attack very underweight with only Robinson, Hoskins and Priskin licenced forwards. the funds that were raised would be expected to be put to good use but many fans may recall Aidy’s poor reputation on the trasfer market.
Watford chairman, Graham Simpson said: ” We all wish Darius well in the future. He was a great servant for this club and his goals were of a high importance. He will be misssed by all”
In my opinion, its a mixed reaction. We now have £2M in the bank and the prospect of a new striker who will play “exiting” football. But on the other hand, Boothroyd is no gem in the trasfer market and that may be proved once against with the money raised by Henderson’s departure. Only time will tell.
Brazilian Hornet Released
By: James |Watford midfielder Douglas Rinaldi has been released from the Vicarage Road club after his contract was terminated due to mutual concent.
The Brazilian central midfielder found appearances hard to come by and found himselves in the reserves for the best part of the 2007 / 2008 season. The only contribution he made to the first team was appearances in both carling cup matches against Gillingham and Southend United.
Rinaldi came to Watford on a 6 month loan which was made permanant after impressive displays against Spurs, Chelsea and Blackburn. He netted the only Watford goal on the 3-1 defeat to Blackburnat Ewood Park, just a few days before the 1-1 draw with Manchester City relegated Watford back to the Championship.
In my opinion, it is a mistake letting Rinaldi go. He has proven talent at Premiership level but just didn’t get the chance to play or even make the subs bench last term. I feel he should of been given the chance under Boothroyd’s new style of play that he’s bringing in for next season and if he didnt take off then either, fair enough.
I’m also unsure why he was released. Clubs as big as Birmingham are chasing the creationist as would most likly be willing to pay a decent amout. Why wasnt he transfer listed and later released when there was no luck? I wouldnt mind a word or two with Mr. Boothroyd over this one.
